Manifesto

I have about four hundred books, some on shelves and others on the floor. I wanted to keep track of my reading and save the quotes and notes I collected. That is how BookGeist began.

I want to be able to return to what I’ve read: find a book, a passage I underlined, or a thought I had while reading. That is what I’m making this app for.

I studied philosophy and have spent years developing software. BookGeist brings those two parts of my life together. AI is one of the tools in the app; each reader decides when to use it.

In the song, the BookGeist spirit says “I remember what you’ve read.” That is what I want the app to do: help me keep a record of my reading, and help you do the same.

What that means in practice:

  • Your library is stored on your device. You decide whether to enable AI services and cloud backup.
  • Classic is free. Lifetime is a one-time purchase and Studio is a subscription. The terms are on the app’s website.
  • I don’t sell your data.
