A walk with Kala.
That is where the name came from.

I’m Luka. I studied philosophy, work in software development, and created BookGeist to organise my library and keep track of my reading.

i.

The bench

One May afternoon, I was sitting on a park bench with Kala. She saw some cats and chased after them. I looked at her and said: "you are a free spirit."

That “free spirit” led to Geist, and then to BookGeist. The studio’s name, Kalapps, comes from Kala.

ii.

The philosophy

I studied philosophy before going into software development.

Then came years of software development with .NET and about fifteen years of barely writing. With BookGeist, I’ve started writing again and working on a project of my own.

iii.

The four hundred

I have about four hundred books. They don’t all fit on the shelves; quite a few are on the floor.

I wanted to keep track of my library and save what I wrote down while reading. BookGeist brings together books, reading records, quotes and notes.

iv. · Kala

The dog who named all of this

Kala is my golden retriever. She comes with me on walks and lies at my feet when I read. She appears with me in the video and on the back of the bookmark.
